Daycare at Canine Acres operates a bit differently than that of most facilities. Rather than keeping our doggy guests penned or kenneled for long periods of time and allowing them out for 'playtimes', we give them the freedom to play and relax at their leisure and, in doing so, have found that they are very good at self-regulating when given the chance (aside from the young puppies who adhere to a more rigid schedule, see Puppy Policy.)
Why Dog Daycare?
Daily exercise, both physical and mental, is extremely important for dogs, especially young pups and active working breeds. A well exercised dog is not only a healthy dog, but it is also much less likely to get into trouble due to excessive boredom. Furthermore, a dog who has been active during the day will be happy to just relax at the end of the day, just like you after a long work day! The saying stands true, a tired dog is a well-behaved dog.
A socialized dog is a happy dog. Dogs are pack animals and require a certain degree of intra-species interaction. This interaction is hugely important in the development of young dogs and plays a large role in preventing and correcting bad behavior. Socialization, both with other dogs and with the Canine Acres staff, helps prevent and repair social anxiety and separation anxiety, especially when started at a young age. Dogs who attend daycare from the time they are pups demonstrate superior social skills, show much fewer signs of anxiety than those who seldom interact with other dogs, and are generally more well balanced and adaptable.
Daycare is not only beneficial for your canine counterpart, but also for you! You will have a clear conscious knowing that your dog is in good hands in a safe environment, learning and having a blast, not curled up by the front door watching the time pass just waiting for your homecoming.
In spite of all of the benefits of our daycare, it isn't right for every dog or every dog owner. If you are looking for daycare for your pup, take the time to visit a few facilities. Ask questions and make sure you are comfortable with all policies and procedures before leaving your dog with us or any other daycare provider.
